The previous social studies adoption for Beverly Hills Unified School district took place initiating in the 2007-2008 school year.
Our Middle School Social Studies Specialist along with teachers representing grade levels from 6 – 8 attended an instructional materials fair along with many other school districts in the Los Angeles area. Through more than several meetings, the entire middle school social studies department along with students' feedback completed a thorough analysis of textbooks and support materials. Through this process, the department narrowed the selection to 3 publishers. These 3 publishers met the specific instructional needs of BHUSD and fulfilled the state requirements of the new framework for middle school social studies. The district held a publisher presentation from these 3 publishers on May 8th 2018. The adoption committee which consists of teachers, parents, and district administrators deliberated over multiple days to determine their overall recommendations.
The committee recommended the TCI: HISTORY ALIVE! California Series programs to be adopted for our middle school social studies curriculum starting 2018-2019 school year for 6-year adoption cycle.
The cost of this adoption is $166,597.20 to be funded through the District Textbook Lottery Funds.
