X.C. Approval of Middle School Social Studies Textbook Adoption
Rationale:
The previous social studies adoption for Beverly Hills Unified School district took place initiating in the 2007-2008 school year. Our Middle School Social Studies Specialist along with teachers representing grade levels from 6 – 8 attended an instructional materials fair along with many other school districts in the Los Angeles area.  Through more than several meetings, the entire middle school social studies department along with students' feedback completed a thorough analysis of textbooks and support materials. Through this process, the department narrowed the selection to 3 publishers. These 3 publishers met the specific instructional needs of BHUSD and fulfilled the state requirements of the new framework for middle school social studies. The district held a publisher presentation from these 3 publishers on May 8th 2018. The adoption committee which consists of teachers, parents, and district administrators deliberated over multiple days to determine their overall recommendations. The committee recommended the TCI: HISTORY ALIVE! California Series programs to be adopted for our middle school social studies curriculum starting 2018-2019 school year for 6-year adoption cycle. The cost of this adoption is $166,597.20 to be funded through the District Textbook Lottery Funds.

XIV. PLANNING AND FACILITIES
XIV.A. Approval of Professional Services Agreement with Leighton Consulting, Inc., for the Beverly Hills High School B1/B2 Project.
Rationale:
On May 24, 2011, an RFQ was issued for Geotechnical Consulting Services. On June 14, 2011 two firms were selected from the original group of respondents, Group Delta Consultants, Inc. and Leighton Consulting, Inc. On November, 23, 2016, the Board of Education approved an agreement with Leighton Consulting, Inc., for geotechnical testing, materials testing, and special inspection services at the Beverly Hills High School Site. The Beverly Hills High School B1/B2 Project is scheduled to begin in June 2018. This work will require geotechnical and environmental testing, and monitoring services. Because of Leighton Consulting, Inc.’s previous work at Beverly Hills High School, the firm is familiar with the technical aspects of the school site and has provided a proposal in an amount of $314,380.00. This work will be performed as required on a time and materials basis for the Beverly Hills High School B1/B2 Project. On April 25, 2018, the Board of Education approved a new agreement with Leighton Consulting, Inc. for the Beverly Hills High School B1/B2 Project in the amount of $145,812.00. This amount was in error and only covered one scope of the testing and monitoring outlined in Leighton’s proposal. The sum for the entire work is $314,380.00
